{"id":20365,"date":"2023-08-02T14:08:46","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T12:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.robertosedda.it\/?p=20365"},"modified":"2023-08-02T14:08:48","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T12:08:48","slug":"dinamiche-fra-donne-di-carattere-e-talento","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robertosedda.it\/?p=20365","title":{"rendered":"Dinamiche fra donne di carattere e talento"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ho letto pochissimo delle varie celebrazioni e ricordi di Sinead O&#8217;Connor perch\u00e9 non sento di avere la competenza adatta per capire quali sono ipocriti e quali sinceri, e temo che con una personalit\u00e0 portata alle controversie come O&#8217;Connor questa ignoranza possa portare per trovarsi erroneamente a concordare con bastardi intriganti con mezzo metro di pelo sullo stomaco, quindi ho preferito evitare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ieri per\u00f2 il fidato aggregatore di notizie mi ha inopinatamente proposto un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/music\/news\/miley-cyrus-sinead-wrecking-ball-letter-b2386032.html\">articolo dell&#8217;<em>Indipendent<\/em><\/a> che riporta la lettera che O&#8217;Connor invi\u00f2 a Miley Cyrus dopo la sua esibizione agli <em>MTV Awards<\/em> del 2013 &#8211; per quelli che non ce l&#8217;hanno presente, ci furono un sacco di discussioni a causa di un <em>twerking<\/em> piuttosto spinto e della presenza ingombrante di un enorme dito di plastica usato per simulare vari possibili usi di un fallo (oh, pur non essendo un seguace, ricordo benissimo le polemiche &#8211; fra chi vedeva Cyrus trasformarsi da crisalide in farfalla, chi aveva pena di lei perch\u00e9 disposta a fare di tutto per scrollarsi di dosso l&#8217;aria da santarellina da Hanna Montana e chi parlava perch\u00e9 non ci si poteva non infilare nella discussione &#8211; e oggi, che ho rivisto la scena, ho trovato gli sforzi di Cyrus pateticamente esagerati ma insomma, rivisto oggi molta acqua \u00e8 passata sotto i ponti, sotto tutti i punti di vista).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VTAS5JERleQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=it-IT&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In realt\u00e0 la lettera di Sinead O&#8217;Connor non \u00e8 direttamente successiva agli <em>MTV Awards<\/em> ma appena dopo, quando \u00e8 uscito il video di <em>Wrecking ball<\/em>, in cui Miley Cyrus, continuando l&#8217;opera di capovolgimento della sua immagine, sostanzialmente fa sesso con una palla di metallo di diverse tonnellate. Intervistata da <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, Cyrus tir\u00f2 in ballo O&#8217;Connor e quella ritenne opportuno rispondere pubblicamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ricordavo vagamente le polemiche ma non conoscevo la storia; ho letto la lettera e l&#8217;ho trovata&#8230; <em>interessante<\/em>. Molto interessante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intanto \u00e8 interessante a livello linguistico, anche se questo \u00e8 il meno: \u00e8 interessante l&#8217;inglese di Sinead O&#8217;Connor, compresi gli strafalcioni, col suo livello colloquiale, le ripetizioni, insistite, e le varie ripetizioni e alterazioni di <em>fuck.<\/em> Non avevo tempo di tradurlo, ma in ogni caso mi pare un testo che va letto nell&#8217;originale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ma soprattutto \u00e8 interessante per la dinamica che costruisce (e che Cyrus ha contribuito a costruire, d&#8217;altra parte) &#8211; cio\u00e8 \u00e8 interessante per la dinamica di interazione fra due donne di talento, di personalit\u00e0, pubblicamente esposte, che ragionano &#8211; una esplicitamente, l&#8217;altra dietro le quinte &#8211; su cose come il ruolo femminile nel mondo dello spettacolo, il modo di proporsi, in che modo fare musica, e cos\u00ec via. Le cose interessanti, e anche sorprendenti, le dice evidentemente O&#8217;Connor: per esempio \u00e8 interessante &#8211; e sorprendente &#8211; che scelga una posizione materna, che non esiti a collocare l&#8217;altra donna nel ruolo di prostituta, o perlomeno di una che viene prostituita da altri, magari senza che se ne renda conto, il rifiuto netto dell&#8217;idea che nudit\u00e0 e promiscuit\u00e0 equivalgano a liberazione sessuale, l&#8217;utilizzo ripetuto del termine <em>young lady<\/em>, un gioiello da <em>custodire<\/em>, per definire Cyrus e le coetanee, invece del pi\u00f9 piano <em>young woman <\/em>che ci si aspetterebbe, la costruzione di un dualismo fra noi donne di spettacolo esibite e sfruttate e un universo esterno completamente maschile di pubblico e produttori, che del talento femminile riempie le proprie fantasie sessuali o in alternativa le proprie tasche, l&#8217;idea essere una donna adulta vuol dire avere imparato che il mondo \u00e8 pieno di animali e predatori e che occorre essere prudenti &#8211; evitando di mettersi la minigonna? ho pensato &#8211; e che essere donne di spettacolo vuol dire evitare di mandare a tutte le giovani donne l\u00e0 fuori messaggi sbagliati su nudit\u00e0 (cio\u00e8 atteggiamenti) e sessualit\u00e0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ci sono un paio di passaggi molto efficaci, nell&#8217;argomentazione &#8211; il mio preferito \u00e8 <em>loro sono l\u00e0 per i soldi, noi per la musica<\/em>, che sarebbe piaciuto ai musicisti dei romanzi di Rothfuss &#8211; e evidentemente Sinead O&#8217;Connor aprendosi a Cyrus lascia intravedere anche la sua lettura dell&#8217;industria, la sua esperienza e magari un pezzetto della sua sofferenza, ma la lettera \u00e8 soprattutto interessante se la si legge mettendosi nei panni di Miley Cyrus, cio\u00e8 una donna giovane di grandissimo talento che ritiene di stare definendo il proprio posto nel mondo e si sente dire queste cose: perch\u00e9 con questa prospettiva il filo dei ragionamenti di O&#8217;COnnor, gi\u00e0 sorprendente, diventa <em>controverso<\/em> e la dinamica fra le due donne, a cui accennavo prima, molto pi\u00f9 difficile da leggere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come detto, qui \u00e8 in originale; vedo che in realt\u00e0 \u00e8 un mini-tormentone di questi giorni e non \u00e8 difficile trovarla in italiano su altri siti (e vedo anche che Miley Cyrus reag\u00ec nel modo sbagliato, ma voi lasciate perdere questa parte).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Dear Miley,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wasn\u2019t going to write this letter, but today i\u2019ve been dodging phone calls from various newspapers who wished me to remark upon your having said in&nbsp;<em>Rolling Stone<\/em>&nbsp;your \u201cWrecking Ball\u201d video was designed to be similar to the one for \u201cNothing Compares\u201d \u2026 So this is what I need to say \u2026 And it is said in the spirit of motherliness and with love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way \u2018cool\u2019 to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, and it is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent. I am happy to hear I am somewhat of a role model for you and I hope that because of that you will pay close attention to what I am telling you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The music business doesn\u2019t give a s*** about you, or any of us. They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think its what YOU wanted \u2026 and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, \u2018they\u2019 will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of the men ogling you give a s*** about you either, do not be fooled. Many\u2019s the woman mistook lust for love. If they want you sexually that doesn\u2019t mean they give a f*** about you. All the more true when you unwittingly give the impression you don\u2019t give much of a f*** about yourself. And when you employ people who give the impression they don\u2019t give much of a f*** about you either. No one who cares about you could support your being pimped \u2026 and that includes you yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, I\u2019m suggesting you don\u2019t care for yourself. That has to change. You ought be protected as a precious young lady by anyone in your employ and anyone around you, including you. This is a dangerous world. We don\u2019t encourage our daughters to walk around naked in it because it makes them prey for animals and less than animals, a distressing majority of whom work in the music industry and it\u2019s associated media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are worth more than your body or your sexual appeal. The world of showbiz doesn\u2019t see things that way, they like things to be seen the other way, whether they are magazines who want you on their cover, or whatever \u2026 Don\u2019t be under any illusions \u2026 ALL of them want you because they\u2019re making money off your youth and your beauty \u2026 which they could not do except for the fact your youth makes you blind to the evils of show business. If you have an innocent heart you can\u2019t recognise those who do not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I repeat, you have enough talent that you don\u2019t need to let the music business make a prostitute of you. You shouldn\u2019t let them make a fool of you either. Don\u2019t think for a moment that any of them give a flying f*** about you. They\u2019re there for the money\u2026 we\u2019re there for the music. It has always been that way and it will always be that way. The sooner a young lady gets to know that, the sooner she can be REALLY in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You also said in&nbsp;<em>Rolling Stone<\/em>&nbsp;that your look is based on mine. The look I chose, I chose on purpose at a time when my record company were encouraging me to do what you have done. I felt I would rather be judged on my talent and not my looks. I am happy that I made that choice, not least because I do not find myself on the proverbial rag heap now that I am almost 47 yrs of age \u2026 which unfortunately many female artists who have based their image around their sexuality, end up on when they reach middle age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Real empowerment of yourself as a woman would be to in future refuse to exploit your body or your sexuality in order for men to make money from you. I needn\u2019t even ask the question \u2026 I\u2019ve been in the business long enough to know that men are making more money than you are from you getting naked. Its really not at all cool. And its sending dangerous signals to other young women. Please in future say no when you are asked to prostitute yourself. Your body is for you and your boyfriend. It isn\u2019t for every spunk-spewing dirtbag on the net, or every greedy record company executive to buy his mistresses diamonds with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the shedding of the Hannah Montana image \u2026 whoever is telling you getting naked is the way to do that does absolutely NOT respect your talent, or you as a young lady. Your records are good enough for you not to need any shedding of Hannah Montana. She\u2019s waaaaaaay gone by now \u2026 Not because you got naked but because you make great records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether we like it or not, us females in the industry are role models and as such we have to be extremely careful what messages we send to other women. The message you keep sending is that its somehow cool to be prostituted \u2026 its so not cool Miley \u2026 its dangerous.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/women\">Women<\/a>&nbsp;are to be valued for so much more than their sexuality. We aren\u2019t merely objects of desire. I would be encouraging you to send healthier messages to your peers \u2026 that they and you are worth more than what is currently going on in your career.
